On data.nysed.gov, why are the grades 3 through 8 English language arts (ELA) and math data under “Student Data” different from those in the New York State Report Cards under “School Data”?

Grades 3-8 ELA and math data under “Student Data” on data.nysed.gov are as reported to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) at the end of the school year but before the end-of-year reporting deadline. These data are preliminary and are used for an early public release so that schools can begin planning for the upcoming school year. Grades 3-8 ELA and math data in the New York State Report Cards under “School Data” are those reported to the Department via the Student Information Repository System (SIRS) as of the SIRS end-of-year reporting deadline, which is typically the end of August. These data are final and reflect any corrections to demographic information (such as race/ethnicity, gender, etc.) made by districts and schools after the preliminary release.
